Magellan's executive management team is comprised of seasoned professionals with extensive knowledge of the defense electronics industry, a global network of relationships, and the ability to develop and execute on open market solutions involving the procurement and resale of electronic components.
Magellan's founders met while working in sales and business development at a previous company. Together they established Magellan Distribution in 2001 to service clients in the Telecommunications industry and later, the Government, Aerospace, and Defense industry.
James C. Russell
CEO
Jim Russell has over 17 years of sales and marketing experience with Fortune 1000 companies in the electronics industry. His strategic vision and expertise in semiconductor distributon have resulted in the cultivation of longstanding relationships with many of the industry's leading OEMs and EMS providers, along with leading independent distributors and resellers worldwide. All of these relationships have proven critical to Magellan's ability to excel as a trusted supply chain partner for government prime contractors and Magellan's larger client network. Jim is responsible for Magellan's Sales and Purchasing teams.
Jim's sales career started at IBM/Lexmark where he was credited with landing the single largest contract in the Northeast for Lexmark International. While at Lexmark, he was charged with heading up the insurance vertical market for national sales. He continued his sales career in a consulting role at Odyssey L.P. where he was responsible for developing large consumer electronic accounts and was in regular contact with senior level executives deliberating the strategic future of consumer electronics. He received an M.B.A. from Babson College and a B.A. in Political Science from Boston University.
Tara E. Thiessen
President
Tara Thiessen has over 13 years of operations and supply chain management experience in the defense and electronics industry. She is the driving force behind the establishment of the Company's back office infrastructure and processes which qualify the sourcing and delivery of high quality products and services to Magellan's client network. In addition to managing the Operations team, she is responsible for the Company's business development efforts.
Prior to Magellan, Tara served as an Air Force officer for over seven years, managing aircraft maintenance, inspection, and logistics operations involving cargo (C-141, C-17) and refueling (KC-135) aircraft in the US and abroad. In her last role as Director of Operations, she managed workflow prioritization and supply chain management for an organization charged with maintaining a fleet of KC-135 aircraft. She received her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, a M.S. in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.
